Jinshanling Great Wall is located in Luanping County of Hebei province, the intersection point of Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia. The section of the Great Wall was built during the first year of the reign of Ming Hongwu (1368) and was rebuilt under the direction of Qi Jiguang who was serving as the army officer of Ji Town (1567-1582). It is 700 meters above sea level with mountains in the north, clear Simatai Reservoir in the east and rippling Miyun Reservoir in the south. This section of the wall resorted to strategically located place of difficult access, ups and downs between mountains and rivers. In particular, watchtowers were densely constructed here and have compact structure and different styles that other sections such as Badaling, Shanhaiguan and Jiayuguan cannot compared with.
Jinshanling is one of the sections of the Great Wall being developed. It twists and turns, features a broaden vision and densely constructed watchtowers, and looks magnificent. All four seasons are appropriate for hiking thanks to lofty mountains and steep hills as well as boundless trees in the area. In January 1988, Jinshanling Great Wall was announced to be the third batch of national key cultural relics to be protected by the State Council. In 1991, it was listed as a state-level scenic spot in 1991.
